Product Name: Giottos MTL9 Tripod
The Giottos MTL 9361B to be exact is one of the bigger aluminum tripods in the MTL9 range. I got it about a year ago, and though I would start the product reviews with this.
Im not going to beat around the bush I love this tripod, it suits all my needs. It works grate from everyday usage, studio work to advanced macro, this tripod could be for everyone. For that reason I give it a whopping pictography 4P's rating
Depending on the tripod the specs really differ, the MLT9 section on the Giottos website has all the specs and features to really help find the tripod that fits you perfectly.
This tripod is a sturdy beast it holds a pro body and 70-200 2.8 no problem. It's versatility is superb you can get this thing in to positions only a gymnast could get into. The centre column can be moved to get into those macro positions accompanied with the three position legs the mlt9 can get into all the tricky places. The hook on the bottom of the centre post allows you to hang a weight for long exposures and time laps, For my landscape work I have been using the shot canter post (that comes with the tripod) so I can get the camera low to give me a different perspective with a wide angle lens. On the opposite side it get's up to 70 inches tall without a head or camera on. Accompanied with the foam on the legs and the added foam make this a awesome tripod for me.
A bit of a hidden feature is you can loosen just the centre column to pan the head. This means you can do sill panoramas without getting a more expensive pan head, however the movement is not that flowed so i wouldn't attempt video.
For me there isn't any drawbacks to this tripod but i think thats only because i don't travel that much, this being a three section aluminum tripod makes it big and heavy. If you are a traveller the carbon fiber version will be more suited to you. Maybe you could go for the four section but this could affect the suability a bit as you set the tripod higher.
Its for that reason i give the Giottos MLT9 361B 4 out of 5. When you put a quality head on top it really is a tripod for life if you a traveling photographer i would go for the lighter carbon fiber one. If your serious about your photography a tripod is a must, and I would definitely recommend this one.
